The Cobra Single Coils
« on: January 07, 2015, 02:59:13 PM »
The Cobra single coils are now available from our online shop!

The Cobra single coils have the radical look of the Black Hawk humbucker but the tone of a true single coil. They're available in both 6 and 7 string.

You can read up and have a listen to the sound clips here - http://bit.ly/FCobra

If you have any questions you can call us at the workshop on 01326 341313 or email us at social@bareknucklepickups.co.uk

Hey Serratus, the seven string version will be added any day now! We can take your order for them over the phone if needed quickly!

They're a true single coil Stephan. They do not humcancel.

Like the samples I've heard so far and would like a bridge pup BUT unfortunately only available in black with no plans for white version.

Shame, I'm not a fan of black pickups on white strat scratchplates.

(wonder what the ratio of strat white pups/white scratchplates to strat black pups/white scratchplates is ..??  :undecided: )

As far as I remember due to production process (same as Black Hawk) white option won`t be available. That`s what I read some time ago as BKP released first info about Cobras.

I think it is good that Tim sticks to his ethos and made them true single coils. When I had my strat, I felt the hum wasn't a big issue if you have a simple noise gate.

What production process stops from making a 'white' bobbin.........?

Hey guys, I just want to shed some light on the colour options for the Cobra.

I did personally investigate getting what would effectively be 'White Hawks' There are two problems with this - firstly, they don't make the material in white and we're unable to get hold of it. Secondly, due to the nature of how we make pickups, being wound, potting, build and then re-potted and tested. A white Black Hawk would gain far to many marks from the winding and building process and so on. Being that the material is absorbent you can't simply wipe off any marks either and I honestly believe we would end up wasting a lot of coils due to this.

However, we do re-look at things like this as time passes to see if there is a way we can do it. So far we are left with no suppliers of the white material though.

Hope this helps you guys understand our position.

Perhaps you ought to rename it the Model T  (after Henry Ford's quote when the Model T was released ... "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black")

I don't think it is will affect the Black Hawks too much but the vast majority of Strat pickups surely must be white? Perhaps not so bad if you want a complete set but if (like me) you want a single then I think it could lose sales.

How about a very thin white plastic plate stuck on top after the pickup has been wound/potted?

The bobbins are made of some kind of fibreboard like Tele pickups aren't they?  That being the case, I can understand white not being available but Tellboy's suggestion of a white "bobbin topper" (do they still make those things?) sounds feasible.

Personally I prefer black covers on white scratchplates (and white covers on black or tortoise scratchplates) but I do take the point that most Strats are white on white (or an "aged" variation of the same).
