got the IT set but...

I want more beef in positions 2 and 4.

Is it feesable to wire these positions in series for more oomph?

What would be the disadvantages of doing this?

The middle pickup is rwrp I think.

What you would get is a fatter sound, yes. That means you loose some of that single coil twang though. Best course of action is trying it. If you want it fatter you will get that and 1,3,5 still deliver the twang. I mean it is just wiring, try it mate, I am pretty sure youŽll like it.

Nice video thanks! Mine is reverse wound in the middle so 2 and 4 are humcancelling but they don't have the power of the other positions 1, 3 and 5!

Like the bridge is more powerful on its own than with the middle so I'm wondering if serial wiring will change this much and what would be the downfall of serial?

I dunno why they don't just make all pickups switching like Brian Mays guitar!

The volumedrop in position 2 and 4 is quite normal with RWRP. Those positions provide classic Fender quack. You loose that if you wire that in series, but maybe that's exactly what you want.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Thanks

Any info on how to wire two and four in series?

I might get the best of both worlds as I'm not fussed about quack!

you can do it with a push/pull pot:

Is it possible to do without a pot? I'm willing to sacrifice the quack in two and four for pure serial wiring

You can do it with a three way quite easily:
neck, middle+bridge series, bridge

If you used a standard five way things would get messy, I believe you would get something like:
neck, neck in parallel with bridge and middle in series, middle+bridge series, bridge, bridge

Then there are five way super- and mega-switches. Without spending time working out a wiring I couldn't help you with that immediately. There might be something cunning you can do with a four way, but I would need to think about it again

Sounds like a hassle! I may just get the sinners or use a les Paul for when chug is required.

I find strat types too awkward for Palm mutes as the bridge is too far back

You think I can get ballsy chug from the IT set?

I've got a tele deluxe with s1 switching and you get decent balls from the two pups in series.

yeah for sure, even the bridge alone. do you have a baseplate on there? is there a tone control on that bridge pickup?

I'm not sure as I bought the guitar with ITs pre installed.

Ive been considering lace blue, silver, red set but people either love or hate them.

I know Paul Gilbert has single coils in his fireman so balls are possible!

I play with a keys player so les Paul stock humbuckers just sound muddy and terrible for cleans!

I work with alot of electronics, and that is also a concern for me - especially with the neck pickup. I think the strat neck works brilliantly with electronics.

For the Les Paul I would suggest a Rebel Yell which is perfect with a electronic right backing.

For your strat you should definitely take the scratch plate of her and see hows shes configured right now. You can work with those Irish Tours for sure, without spending much money. I use strats live very often these days, you can get a great rock sound with a ton of cut from a SSS strat but it needs a bit more thinking about.

Heres a *really* cheesy track, however it shows how strats can work well with electronics:

Heres my 'recipe':

baseplate on bridge
tone control on bridge pickup
curly cord
treble booster (or DOD 250)
marshall amp
roll the volume control down a bit - it thickens it up for rhythm.
