Two guitars, Ibanez K-7 and Carvin DC727 - what pickups?!
« on: February 01, 2015, 10:14:08 PM »
Okay, so I'm trading my UV for a K-7 (prefer mahogany body, lo-pro bridge etc.) an it comes stock with PAF 7s, the music I play is like a heavier Alter Bridge, huge sound but not overly technical and focus on clarity and melody. Currently I have EMG 57/66 combo in a Setius 7 and I love how they sound in that combo, just aren't the most dynamic pickups but versatile enough. If I could get a similar type of crunch/thickness in the K-7 that would be fantastic. I was thinking either Painkillers or Black Hawks?

The Carvin is maple neck through with walnut wings and ebony board. Just now it has a Lundgren M7 in the bridge, for tech metal its fantastic an I have used it for that, but its not really to my taste, too sterile and a bit harsh in the highs. I like my tones warm, thick and clear, same with my leads.  I can see the carvin being my most versatile out of the lot as it has options for splitting each bucker so something that will cover a lot of ground here but with a nod towards metal, maybe the holy diver set?

I appreciate the help!

ceramic nailbomb for the k-7
paired with a cold sweat or vhII

"I like my tones warm, thick and clear, same with my leads."
this kinda rings the bell for a miracle man set for the carvin
and they deliver some of the best splitted tones I've heard
the MM is also known for sounding really good in maple neck thru

but a holy diver would work, anyway
it's intriguing how the holy diver and miracle man sound nothing alike, but at the same time, one can do pretty much everything the other does just as well
they're like half-brothers that were raised by different parents but have the same natural aptitudes
I'd still bet on the MM for this one, though, unless you want a really soft and round sort of lead tone
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat
