New 'Radiator' covers - what is your opinion?
« on: February 03, 2015, 10:14:03 PM »
Hi all of you beautiful people!
As someone might have noticed, BKP started to offer 'new' type of covers, Radiator covers.
What do you think about that approach? Do you like it/don`t like it?

I think that those covers might add up some beauty to some guitars, which would benefit from e.g TV Jones style pickups. TV Jones was my first, initial thought once I saw Radiators on Facebook. They not exactly the same, but it`s nice that BKP offers something different as well.

For example that Black Hawk humbucker in chrome Radiator cover (Facebook) looked absolutely mega hot and immense! Much better than BH itself.

I can see the attraction for certain applications for sure. I think they do look pretty cool actually.

Just wondering if there`ll be an option to change the colour of coils or only black ones will be available. Shouldn`t be a big problem to go red for example.

that Black Hawk looks bad azz, no joke.

They look odd to me. I'm not a fan. It's a good thing there are other options. That's one of the great things about BKP, options.

I can see the appeal of the blackhawks with chrome. That has a certain sleek oldschool look about it that could go well with certain guitars. Something that I consider myself at one point. Modern deco style.

The example with the normal screws however....that just strikes me, imho, as rather ghastly. Maybe it is a bad example shot, but no. Just no.

In the end more options are nice to be seen though. Also shows that there is more cool stuff to come in the visual department.

I totally agree, normal screws looks odd, especially with camo cover. Same as burnt chrome I suppose. But gold cover or plain chrome/nickel covers might be better, shame that there`s no pictures yet.

so far I see covered BH as a huge improvement look wise so far. What sort of a guitars would they suit look wise? Just wondering...

Well beyond the obvious modern styles and metal alloy guitars where the BH already worked well and now works better, I could actually see this new version work better in some more vintage style guitars. Could either be ones that were a bit futuristic in their design at the time or ones that are just utterly old school where it than gives that "the pickup of the future" as envisioned in some 50s sci-fy magazine look. If that makes any sense.

Modern retro, I like them. I can see someone pimping his Gretsch with those radiators.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I can also see them in some Teles Thinline Deluxe, black finish, white binding, 'F' hole and Radiators... nice!

To be honest, at last BH looks appealing in my opinion.

Chrome with black bolts could be a sweet replacement on a Peavey T-60 with the old 'toaster' pickups

Well, its nice to have options. I can take or leave them myself, but can imagine some situations where they'd look good.

They certainly suit the Black Hawk.  That might look good with a pair of Cobras, or maybe it would be a bit much, I'm not sure.

I'd be interested to see how the cover would look on a zebra or double cream pickup.

I'd worry a bit about the plating flaking around the edges of the holes, I think...
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

It`s not confirmed that other coil colours will be available, only black so far. But on the other hand, different colours shouldn`t be a problem at all.

Plating flaking? Never thought about that. Cheap chrome coating peels off after some time, hopefully BKP will pay attention to that aspect.
I don`t mind my pickups getting 'aged' look after years of abuses but coating coming off would be a big 'no, no'.
