Juggernaut set in Ibanez RG7621
« on: February 08, 2015, 07:46:21 PM »
Planning on ordering a Juggernaut set for my late 90s Ibanez RG7621.  I have a few questions regarding pickup covers... how much would covers affect the tone with this pickup/guitar combo (basswood body, maple neck)?  I know Misha has covers on his maple top Jacksons, but I've seen his solid basswood models uncovered.  Would uncovered be the way to go for then 7621?  Since the Juggernauts are an odd size, would I need to mod the pickup cavities?

Also, I've read that you need to specify certain specs for a 5 way Ibanez switch when ordering.  Is this true?

Thanks!

Covers make a slight difference, but doubt anyone will notice any TBH.

You shouldn't need to mod the cavity, maybe you need to ask for 'Tri Tab' legs which are triangular to fit into some Ibanez direct mount with Dimarzio pups already installed.

Not sure about the last question though, i never heard of that issue before.

Covers do slightly tame the high end (really the treble you donīt want that much of anyhow), even though BKP do adjust the wind to minimize this. If you use a modern high gain amp that should actually play into your hands though. Covers on a lot of modern PUs can be good because of the way they are used.

Darren is right on the tabs if you have direct mounting. Just say so in the comment box and itīs done. Besides that use this and measure to be save. https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/dimensions/humbuckers/50and53mm_juggernaut.pdf

Finally on the wiring: Similar to PRS and Petrucci wiring you will need a flipped magnet on the neck pickup to retain humcancelling in all positions. BKP will do that no problem if you just put "For Ibanez 5 way switch", or something to the same effect, in the comment box when ordering.
