Hi folks,

I need recommendations for a pickup combo (neck and bridge humbuckers) for a neck-thru swamp ash/walnut top bodied guitar. The neck and fingerboard of the guitar are maple.  This wood combo is makes the guitar very bright, so I'm looking for pickups that will help me tame the brightness on this guitar. I play 80's heavy metal, hard rock and melodic instrumental/fusion music. For amplification I'm alternating between a Friedman BE 100 and a Kemper Profiling amp (use variuos high gain models).

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Everything else is too bright, so the HD is the bridge option.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

Totally with you on this. The HD performs perfectly for those styles in a brighter especially. Classic 80s hotrodded sound. Organic, warm, growly, rounded but present high end. Perfect for what you want. The EM neck is combining vintage magnets with modern wire to ensure modern cut while retaining classic warmth. Again, perfect for what you want.

Really, those two are the winner and a proven combo. Check out Slartis reviews in the review collection thread sticky here.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n

Really, check out the Crawler too. It's has a bigger tone than the HD and can do heavy metal too.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
