Using the Strymon OB1 as an inspiration I have created my own compressor + booster combo:

Mooer Yellow Comp Optical Compressor followed by the great sounding 1979 MXR Micro Amp. Wow! What a great combo!

Now I can squeeze the tone from really subtle to vintage squish and the boost to my heart content with the great tonality of the MXR regaining any gain loss form the compressor. It works like a charm!!

First I tried boost then comp but, as anticipated, sounded over choked and not nice. The compressor was working hard at compressing the strong signal. Nah... the other way round was the solution! Thumbs up for the Mooer Diamond clone and of course the vintage MXR is just great but people know that already!

What do you think?? Do you use anything similar in your rigs??

Very nice! I am a dedicated boost person as well.
Lately I have using the Bogner Harlow, which is a wonderful compressor/boost with a Neve transformer.

Other times I use a Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone with one (or more) of my boost pedals.

Last time I was in New York I had the chance of buying a vintage MXR Dist+. I figured a new one would sound the same and be more reliable. Big mistake - the new one was 'ok' for sure, decent even, but it had nothing compared to the old one.

I felt the distortion was richer (warmer, little fuzzier, not so much scratchy top end) on the old pedal and distortion control gave a more usable range.

I use some pedals after the wah... but I ave noticed that my vintage Arion chorus pedal can be a bit much if hit by a signal that is too strong. Nothing too bad, just the effect is much more pronounced. With the chorus  I tend to keep the MXR at about 9 o'clock and without the chorus I can crank the boost to about 2 o'clock or even more if required.

and yes.... old MXR pedals sound different and better than newer ones (to my ears).
