Yep, new bass day!!!

The deal for this on GAK was too good to miss.

Arrived this morning.  First impressions - it's superb.  Fantastically well made, as all Yamahas are in my experience.  Lovely sounds (albeit limited by it being passive).  I'd like to have had a blend control on the pickups, but that's no biggie.

Huge amount of bass for tiny amount of money!

Very nice, congrats! Yamaha makes killer gear. I got a new bass about a week ago as well, but not as fancy as yours --  Sterling SUB Ray 4 in trans black. Will post a pic tonight if I get the time.

Nice one. I've only owned one string-based Yamaha instrument, it was pretty well put together.

They seem to have made a mistake on this, though - it's got an extra string on it!

Congrats, Yamaha makes good stuff. Had a lot of Yamaha's in the past. The only one I'm really gassing for is an SA1100.

That does look lovely and Yamaha products are always well made and reliable in my experience.

Hah!  You're not wrong.

Being a guitarist (and already having a super cheap 4 string bass), I thought the extra string would be cool.  But I'm not so sure now... It's kinda cool, because I like to play the low 'E' fretted rather than open.  And it's nice being able to drop down the the low 'D', but in terms of applications I'm sure that a decent 4 stringer is more than enough.  But then more is more, right?!?!

A friend of mine has a Yamaha bass that seems to have lost its sustain.  I suspect the neck joint was damaged when it fell over on stage.  Just be careful of that
