NGD: Feline Candy Apple Strat
« on: March 26, 2015, 11:11:54 AM »
Haven't been on here in nigh on 7 years but thought I'd announce this new addition before I forget.

Been a humbucker guy all my life and fancied a change

Specs:

Alder body
Birdseye maple neck
Birdseye maple fingerboard
Soft V blending into a medium C neck profile
Dunlop 6000 frets
Sperzel Trimlok tuners
Hipshot Contour tremolo
BKP Mother's Milk RWRP set
Gold hardware

My full rig still lives back at my parents' house so I haven't had a chance to crank her yet, only played through a Yamaha THR10 practise amp.

However, I can say that this is the best playing, yummiest feeling and most responsive guitar I've ever played. It's also an absolute beaut with the candy apple red (subtly sparkly finish) and gold hardware that pops!

I should mention that this wasn't a custom order per se, in that I did not spec the guitar personally, but that it has a rather interesting history - the neck has been around for years. I'll go into this more in an update (or perhaps Jon could fill some of the gaps in).

I hadn't had experience of V neck shapes before (grew up on Ibanez shred styles) but the hybrid neck is some sort of wizardry (pun not intended). Lower down the neck there's masses of purchase - loads of grip for complex chords and coupled with the huge frets, bends are effortless. Then higher up it becomes slimmer and more familiar for me and lead playing is a dream. The slightly rolled edges make this a super comfy player.

I must admit, before hearing her plugged, I had read on here that maple neck/board with Mother's milks would be overly bright but this is not my experience at all through the amps at Feline HQ and my little Yammy. The best way I could describe them would be sweet and singing but snappy when you need, with a remarkably tight bottom end. The middle 2 and 4 positions I find so fun and characterful, almost sassy, and the hum cancelling is a bonus. Recorded a short instagram video last night - find it here: https://instagram.com/p/0qywtnGwgJ/ - 'scuse the pj trousers.

Once I get a chance pump her through a valve amp and record something properly, I'll give a proper update.

For now, I urge you (if you haven't already) to go an try a Feline or contact Jon for all your repairs needs - the fretwork and setup are beyond superb.

I'll leave you with an 'official' picture - for more see: Facebook photo album

Looks lovely and it's a Feline, so it will be quality. Just, the gold parts are a bit too fancy for me.

A beauty, and Mr Law knows how to put them together right. Fantastic. Love the matching headstock/body colour with the maple.
