Trilogy in Middle Position Sound??
« on: March 24, 2006, 09:22:47 PM »
What should the Trilogy middle position sound like? I had the guitar wired by a local shop and it seems they missed something. On the miracle man pickups work, but the 3 positions between the first and fifth hardly make a sound.

Then it's definitely been done wrong. I'm going to post a pic in the Tech section. Cost $90 Cdn to get it done, already called them to complain. Their repair guy is back in until Monday so I may as well take a look

That's exactly what I was thinking. Even the Miracle Man pickups sound a little "off", a little thin. I'm not happy about the wiring to say the least. I managed to wire it incorrectly myself the first time, I don't need someone else to do that for me.

I just got off the phone with the manager. I told them I was going to try and get support from BKP and they agreed to either refund my money or DO IT RIGHT. He was really good about it. I've posted a pic of the wiring in the Tech section so hopefully I can sort it out and get my money back.

^^^ yer steve- machinehead wired mine wrongly the first time round... ludicrous that they didnt notice something was extremely wrong... the output difference between the tap engaged and disengaged was about 50%.....then when i complained they said my email was 'shitety' and that they got it wrong because they *DIDNT KNOW HOW TO DO IT*?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

so, a guitar shop, with a pro guitar tech, wired a pup that he didnt know how to do.... and didnt ask for any advice/info from bkp and didnt even tell me he wasnt certain of how to do it.... then they complain about my email being shitety?

sorry had to vent my anger

I've got my Ibanez RG570 at Feline right now having a Trilogy fitted in the middle plus a full fret dress and setup.

We went for the Trilogy on Tim's advice that it could stand up to the competition of a Warpig bridge and FRED neck.

I can't wait to get it back and I'm pretty sure Jonathan has had a little bit of experience fitting them so I should be OK!

The Trilogy is replacing a Dimarzio Fast Track which just falls apart under the competition of the Warpig.

Guitar techs in my sorry experience rarely play their work to check it out - I suppose they are often ancilliary to the shop and work on a cut of the work that they do and so don't have time to play the instrument.  I had a 'pro set up' done that a) choked the strings on any bend on e and b that went over a semitone b) was not intoned anywhere near correctly and c) that had substantial fret rattle on the A and D strings.

I had to do it all myself and so I have a guitar with a 15 mile high action on the basis I have no idea what the hell I am doing!

Having wired my own pups after one bad fitting experience - all I can say is - its not that difficult if you follow the instructions, so a 'specialist' should get it right first time.

I have the Trilogy and it sounds great, now days I send the guitar to a "Real" shop. Research, ask questions, hang around, internet or other forums are of great help.  :)

Sorry to hear that you had that experience (hope it wasn't anyone i know)
We do play all the guitars we work on and have rarely had anything come back in with a problem. However we would always rectify any problem that  came back that was in our remit to do.

No one you know, just some bad experiences from the past - As it happens I am in Forest Hill and my Strat needs a set up so I was going to pay you a visit some time early this week.  Do I need to phone first?
