Gibson Les paul less plus abraxas?
« on: March 26, 2015, 09:56:19 PM »
got a Gibson les paul less.  Thinner body than a std.  Currently has classic 57s which are a bit brittle.  Got a pair of vh2s in a traditional which I love but wondering if to go for something a little hotter in this guitar which splits well.  Any thoughts?

Abraxas hotter, middier PAF which is Vintage in character. If you want a modern tone, you need to look at other BKP. But the Abraxas works in my Gibson Les Paul Standard.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

Abraxas is a good option, as you might to look at the Crawler too, which can be considered as the uber-Abraxas.

The Abraxas is a safe bet I'd say and the Crawler is fantastic if your guitar is naturally at the brighter end of the spectrum. The other possibility might be a Black Dog as I hear good things of that in a Les Paul.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Warpig will be chunky as hell and pretty hot, excellent for single note riff stuff.

But Abraxas is my choice here.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

From my research on the Crawler and personal experience with the Abraxas living in 2 different guitars (Alder and Mahogany), I'd say you can't lose with either of those.  I'm stuck between these two until I my new body and neck are delivered and I can get some sense of the guitar's resonant characteristics.

Let me edit my comment.  If your style includes massive palm muting in drop tuning, the Abraxas will likely not be tight enough for you.

That goes for the Crawler too.
