John Renbourn RIP
« on: March 27, 2015, 11:01:19 AM »
I was utterly devastated to hear that John Renbourn died yesterday, aged 70. Obviously more of an acoustic player (and my favourite folk guitarist) but I thought the board might want to know. I probably saw him live more than any other artist I admire and he was a hell of a player right up to the end. I think the show he did at the Green Man Festival in 2006 was the best I saw him play. He absolutely spanked his Bown acoustic and, if memory serves, broke a string on the last number he was playing so hard. Very very sad.

I'll admit to not being familiar with him, but I know of Pentangle probably because of Bert Jansch.  But those clips are great, and I shall be seeking out more.

A sad loss.  My favourite Renbourn album is 1966's Bert and John - with Jansch and Renbourn jamming away and recorded with  John on the left and Bert on the right.

Years ago I saw him play a tiny church in Colchester and he was mesmerising. It's a great loss.
