Abraxas bridge - retracked and as heavy as I can get 'em
« on: April 08, 2015, 02:18:23 AM »
I'm starting to feel guilty, if not a little self-indulgent with my incessant Abraxas posting.

Here's another retracked song with some heavier tones.  Believe it or not, I'm a blues guy at heart, but I keep on writing this heavy stuff lately.  I have the lighter side of the Abraxas on some other tracks that this link is connected to.  The pictures associated with each track tell the story and alludes to the tones to be heard.  Getting better at mixing bass guitar, by the way.  Uphill struggle with that.

Dude their lead guitarist was one of my biggest influences back in the day.  That dude could squeeze every last drop out of a harmonic minor or Phrygian mode.  Crazy but I had no idea that they could influence my writing. I think I last listened to them in the 90s haha. Diggem. I might have to go grab em on iTunes.

Thanks!

Wow, you got the guitars right again. Sounds awesome. Great chops, nice riffs and classy melodic solo's. Tight and well played. Normally I'm not so into technical/industrial metal, but this could be a track for a backbone shivering movie.

Thanks, Frank!

Funny thing is Im not normally into really heavy music.  I don't listen to it, but I have my moments where it comes out when I write.

Making music for game trailers and soundtracks has been my goal for the last year and I finally landed a small movie and an auto ad campaign, so it's slowly starting to happen.  I had to learn how to do all the tracking and engineering myself, becasue I can't afford studio time lol.  It's been one hell of a ride so far and I hope to continue learning as I go.

Best!

Ps really looking forward to see what the crawler inspires me to write. I've been riding this amazing Abraxas wave for a couple years and have been loving it.

Ha! I knew it!  Candlemass are still one of my faves.  I have something stupid like five concert DVDs of them but have never seen them live due to, like, living in Australia ...

Oh, and here's a classic Candlemass album for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGHcrR7X1bE

I'm pretty sure they've been to the USA, but it might have been a while ago. Tales of Creation was new out when I bought it (1989). That was the album that got me into them.

By the way Candlemass were the band touring with Metallica when Cliff Burton was killed.

Tales of Creation hooked me in, too, despite the rhythm guitars sound like an old peavey solid state combo haha. I found the cd in a bargain bin at a local music store and gave it a whirl.

I had no idea they were on that fateful tour. That's insane. Had no idea.

Sorry, I got that mixed up as I was going by my dodgy memory.

They were touring with Athiest when a very similar bus accident took the life of Atheist bassist Roger Patterson, who many thought was (in terms of ability and style) the 'new Cliff Burton' ... no wonder I got that mixed up.

Candlemass's first Sweden shows were in support of Slayer and Exodus.

I couldn't find out who supported Metallica when that happened

You're doing very well, you'll get there with these kind of tracks.

You ruined my night!  JK

An uncanny and tragic set of events any way you slice em.

Thanks, Frank!
