Recommendations for Ibby RG7421PB
« on: April 13, 2015, 10:27:21 PM »
Hey guys, new here
This is my first post so if I'm doing something wrong, then let me know  I don't want to be that guy

I just bought my first seven string guitar not that long ago, and I'm looking to mod this guitar out with BKP's, and eventually Hipshot/Schaller bridge/tuners etc.
I currently have BKP Juggs in my RGA and love them but I'm not sure if they would suit my 7 string.
Its an Ibanez RG7421PB. Mahogany body, poplar burl top, 3pc maple bolt-on neck, rosewood fretboard. Now I know pickups react differently depending on the guitars build so that's why I wasn't sure if Juggernauts would sound the same on this guitar compared to my RGA.

Im into metal/djent mainly. Bands like Intervals, Periphery, Monuments etc. But also bands like August Burns Red and Erra.
So anything that'll suit that style of music would be ideal.
My signal chain is an Axe Fx Ultra through a Mesa 2x12 V30's. If that helps

So would the Juggernauts sound decent in my 7? Or would Aftermaths be better?

Sorry for the long post, I just want to make sure I get what I'm looking for  :cheesy:

Thanks

I see no obvious reason why they wouldn't work, though they may sound a little different. My first reaction was to wonder why you'd want two guitars essentially the same but it doesn't sound like versatility is of that much importance to you. If you're wanting essentially the same as your other guitar, either the Juggernaut or the Aftermath should do well.

Hey Skybanez and welcome!

If you're really happy with the Juggernaut tone then I would suggest sticking to that. The wood type will alter the tone a bit but it will stay within the standard Juggernaut tonal range. The Juggernaut will give you a little more versatility too.

Thanks for the response  Although I do like the Juggernaut, I was also considering going after something a bit different like the Aftermath, but wasn't sure if that would be like a downgrade. I havn't tried any other BKP so I have nothing to compare them to. I don't want to stick to the same thing, I'd like to explore new and different sounds  Maybe Aftermath's would deliver a different experience of some sort? I still want something that packs a punch and with crisp cleans  Has anyone had any experiences with Aftermaths in a guitar of a similar build?

I think it depends how different you want to be. An Aftermath obviously isn't a Juggernaut but they're both aimed at a very similar market so an Aftermath wouldn't be the last word in diversity.

The Aftermath and the Nailbomb are the closes cousins to the Juggernaut. I personally actually prefer the sound of my Alnico Nailbomb over that of the Juggernaut, but for very low tunings the Juggernaut has slightly better tracking/sits better in the mix, because it accentuates the pick attack more. Maybe the Ceramic Nailbomb would be an alternative?
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog
