Song list for Function Band?
« on: May 05, 2015, 01:34:38 PM »
Our Hard Rock band is thinking of doing a Function band on the side to make some extra money, and we wondered what songs would be the most popular to include in the set list? We're probably looking at learning around 20 so we can do a variety depending on the crowd. Any extra will be learnt as on on-going basis. We just wondered what a good starting point would be?

Look up local function bands on the internet- most of them will list their song list on their websites. Not saying you should play everything they play, or anything like that, but it should give you some idea of what's popular in your area.

Yeah I've done that with a few bands, but they seem to be more tribute based to specific artists. I'm just wondering what songs it's worth knowing. Like maybe a few classics I might not think of that would be cool to have, that maybe other bands haven't thought of :)

Ah right, yeah the ones here aren't really tribute bands, they play a range of stuff.

I'm not in a function band so I don't know what goes down well.

I could give you a set list of stuff we do for functions. It is all pretty lightweight and easy on the ear and designed to get the crowd dancing. Having said that, some of the functions we have done have been with people who specifically wanted a band rather than a disco and that does give you some licence to do something you like doing. If you play well, you can push the boundaries surprisingly far sometimes.
