Pig 90 Mastodon cover
« on: May 12, 2015, 04:40:29 PM »
Learnt my favourite Mastodon track (well, kinda) so thought I'd do a quick cover of it. It's the guitar straight into my Laney GH50L. Still sounds clear for the open chords but brutal for the chugs haha. I've panned the track 50% left and guitar 50% right so you can hear it more if you pan your speakers.

Haha yeah lost a lot of weight over the past 5 years, 23 stone to 12 stone which I'm maintaining!

Yeah I still reckon this LP is my best guitar although I wouldn't mind trying some VHIIs in it still. consistently awesome tone from the pig 90 and mq in this though :)

Enjoy! Seen em live a few times now and they don't disappoint, probably one of my favourite bands now.

Yep it's such an awesome pickup. Seems to go well in the all mahogany LP! It can get a little muddy at times but roll down the guitar volume a bit and you get some awesome twang out of it still. It didn't really work that well in my SG, but I'm still struggling to find the right set of pickups for the SG. I may actually defect and try a SD Custom 5 in it unless anyone has a better suggestion? Currently got Mules in it and the guitar is very "dry" with not much sustain. Great for crunchy raw chords but I seem to go for a more saturated sound especially for single not riffs, leads etc.

Nope I haven't, wasn't sure whether it'd be too modern sounding for my tastes. I think I seem to like an "old school on roids" kinda tone if that makes sense haha.

If you like P-90s I would recommend the Stockholm for an SG if you want something with more output.  People seem to expect it to sound very 'modern' but to me it sounds more like the early '80s Discharge guitar sound on steriods, as you put it.

I tried the Pig 90 in my SG but it didn't sound as good as in the LP. The MQ neck sounded great though, would kinda be tempted by a MQ bridge! I'll keep an eye out for any going second hand.
