« on: March 25, 2006, 04:20:35 PM »
Hey guys,

this was just a few riff ideas i was working with. I quite liked the tone, so i thought i would upload it.

Recording through a POD Xt, Mbox, Ibanez RGT2020 with Nailbombs.

Comments appreciated!

Interesting riffs.  :)  What are you tuned to?

The stuff at the very beginning is a bit too intense for my tastes, although you play well.  I like everything after the clean bit comes in.

Hey, what are you using for the drums?  I noticed that the kick stops when the fills are going.  Or at least, it seemed to be that way for a lot of it.  It was easier to hear in the quiet section, but I couldn't tell for sure in the heavier bits.  Anyways, I was always taught that the kick should keep on going through the fills and often go double-time.  Although, the kick is already going crazy in the heavy sections, so maybe it should be toned down during the fills.  I dunno; this isn't the sort of music I know much about!  ;)

Hi Searcher thanks for listening to the track.

For drums im using DFH2, with beats that i have written using Guitar Pro 4. In alot of the songs i have been writing lately it has been bass drum heavy and when it comes into the fills i do the classic sort of Dream Theater style fill ( tom tom, kick kick, tom tom, kick kick etc ) So i thought i would try out some more traditional style fills as well as messing around with a few ideas.

The fills in the quiet seciton are heavily influenced by Martin Lopez ( Opeth ) and the in the first heavy section the toms and fills are more part of the beat rather then a seperate fill. And again, you are correct the fills in the heavy section hardly have any kick.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Lepersmeesa, your nailbomb version of Laid To Rest is the reason I ordered a Nailbomb.  What Pod amp setting are you using for your heavy parts?  I have a Line 6 Flextone and I use the Mesa settings almost exclusively for heavy stuff.  I liked this tune too.

Thanks Spleen, that is a huge compliment. I take it very graciously.

On this demo i used the 5150 model on both sides.

In previous demos i usually go for a mesa on one side and a powerball on the other. Together i find they give a really nice mid range crunch.

If you can use the patches, just tell me and ill send them over.

Cheers

Dez

Thats a great clip lepersmeesa!
It kinda reminds me a bit of old carcass stuff for some reason.
I really liked the drums too - I wish my PC was powerful enough to run DFH!! Time to invest in some new hardware I think!
MM set, warpig set, about to be fitted - custom 7 bridge 'pig, CS7 neck.

Cheers maxingwell, I have just started listening to alot of 90's death metal, so i can see the influence.

Have you thought about trying to use DFH1? If not try downloading the NS Free Kit ( just search for it on the net, i would now, but im at work    )

PM if you need any help with it.

Great stuff. Get yourself a female singer and you might well be able to make a living as musician/producer.

Man, how do you program drums? Must have been a lot of work!!

haha. How come a female singer? Cant say im that fond of female singers in metal. It can work, but especially in the unsigned scene i havent seen many bands who do it well.

I have my band stuff here www.myspace.com/thesafetyfire . Check it out, tell me what you think.

Powerball clips soon Chris!! Im gonna get a reamp box so i can rerecord parts at a practice room with the amp cranked!!

edit - I program all my drums in guitar pro 4. I tab out everything to make sure i remeber how to play everything ( especially rhythm wise ) It also me keep my idea focused rather then having 400 different licks to end a riff.

In an ideal world i would be using logic pro 7....if anyone wants to lend me £700.

I then import the drums from GP4 to pro tools and trigger dfh2 samples changing velocities and hits to make it sound more realistic.
