I posted this a while back on everythingSG forum. Please try not to laugh too hard at the video; my playing is generally pretty sloppy when it's just the camera looking at me and I am focused on that. Maybe you will recognize a couple of riffs, I play most of 'Nazi Die' by Doom at the end (it only has two riffs). The others are badly remembered riffs from my band's songs and a transposed and badly remembered Sodom riff. It was mainly a reference for me to time how long the various guitars sustain and feedback for. Most of them seem willing to feedback indefinitely. Sustain ranges from 15 seconds to 25 seconds
Guitars:
Yellow Gibson SG Special Faded: A-Pig set with stock wiring harness
Pink Gibson SG Junior: Stockholm with custom harness and shielding, 500K CTS pots, modern wiring (not that it matters here, as all the guitars are on full volume), poly 0.033uf cap
Red Gibson SG Standard: Cold Sweat set with custom harness, '50s wired with PIO 0.022uf caps and 500K CTS pots.
Black Epiphone Explorer: A-Bomb set, fully shielded with custom harness, '50s wired with PIO 0.022uf cap and 550K CTS volume pots and 500K Mojotone push-push master tone pot
The three tune-o-matic guitars have TonePros locking bridge and tailpiece sets. The SG Junior has a Graph Tech ResoMax wraptail with string saver saddles. The SG Junior and SG Special both have Grover locking tuners and Graph Tech TUSQ XL nuts. The Epi has Grover locking tuners and some nut fitted by the previous owner (not factory, could be corian). The SG Standard has its original tuners and nut.
The SG Standard is tuned EADGBE and has Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky (9-46 strings). The others are tuned DGCFAD and have Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom (10-52) strings. All have been professionally set up.
All of the recordings were done with the same amp and pedalboard EQ settings, which are optimized for the pink guitar. I could have backed off on the presence for the Cold Sweat but I wanted a good comparison.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrlYwW7b6wIP.S. all of the audio is bridge pickup only. Also note that there isn't even a hint of 'scoop' on the SG Standard, despite what people say about the Cold Sweat. Try to imagine how middy it sounded with the A-Bomb ...
