Paypal taking money from my bank
« on: March 26, 2006, 02:03:57 AM »
This is very strange. When I buy something on paypal, it charges to my credit card if I have no money in the paypal. I have my bank current account on there to transfer money that I recieve. Anyway, I just checked my account online, and I have exactly £100 taken out by PAYPAL LTD SAN JOSE, 2 days ago, didn't buy anything at all that cost that much in the past 2 weeks, don't have any disputes or claims on paypal, never have. Completely unexplainable. Would there be any reason for this at all? I can't think of any, and I can't imagine how paypal managed to take something from my bank account. It doesn't add up at all. Am I missing something, or are they taking the piss?[/code]

Have you answered any e-mail's from PayPal recently asking you to re-enter your detail's for "security purposes"?

Sounds like you've been scammed, go to PayPal and raise a dispute for the payment, as you didn't authorise it.

Contact your bank immediately and tell them that you did not authorise this transaction and that you have been a victim of fraud. You shouldn't be liable - if they ask you if you have up to date virus protection and firewalls say yes.

It's not really fraud, paypal took the money. I phoned the bank, they set up a dispute, but I phoned paypal too, to try and get it sorted quick time. They said if I fax my bank statement, or send a jpeg of the account online, showing the amount taken, they'd refund me. Assholes.

:D That`s good news !

At least you no it`s not a fraud case. I would suggest that you put a block on PayPal with your bank so they can never withdraw money from your account without your giving permision to your bank to pay`em.

Actually, just made more phone calls to paypal, and this is what happened. Some dude has signed up to paypal with the Solo card attached to my bank account, and spent money with it, so it's very naughty fraud. Paypal had to tell me to ring the police, and then tell the police to ring paypal through their secret number LOL. So, I had to cancel my solo and get a new one... I'm sure the money will be recovered somewhere along the line, but it's scary to know how someone managed to get those details.  :o I'll have to be more careful in future!

I use to love paypal but find if anything can go wrong it will happen to me.  I've had a paypal account for years and since then my debit card on their site was hacked and used several times.  I called my bank and they gave me the money back and sent me a new debit card.  I entered it on Paypal and it happen yet again.  My bank then gave me the money back and sent me a new card.  I now do not put it on paypal and have yet to have a problem since...lol
I'm lucky that I have a only city union workers bank since other people I know had that issue and had a very hard time getting the money back.

I called paypal to let them know what is happening and the guy told me they have been seeing alot of this happening from their site and are trying to fix it..

I was wondering whether Cattivo Ragazzo's card could maybe have been cloned but maybe not- whoever did it must have got his name and they went to the trouble of setting up an account. You'd have thought Paypal would be able to point the police in the right direction- lets hope so. I have stopped using my paypal account now as I had a couple of scares.

the guy who took the card, signed up with the name james anderson, whoever that is, but it's not me, cause when I was on the phone to paypal, she was asking me for my bank details that I registered on paypal, then she said, do you have a switch card with that, I said yeah, and gave her the number, then she did a search or something, and said Ummmm, do you know a mr james anderson? and I was like no, and she was like, hold on, I'll have to pass this to my supervisor. She wasn't actually supposed to give me the guys name, not that it matters, but the next guy, he said I had to phone the police, and then tell the police to contact paypal regarding this. I haven't heard anything from paypal, the police, or my bank - yet. I'll just wait and see.

after reading this i've got half a mind to cancel my paypal account.

i've only just set it up and i had my doubts about it as they ask for your sort code which you are advised/intructed NEVER to give to anyone other than your bank.

how do you actually cancel a paypal account?  does any one know how, i can't find anything about it.
