Celestion Vintage 30 vs G12T-75 Shootout!

Hey guys, I just recorded a shootout between the Celestion Vintage 30 and G12T-75. I wanted to demonstrate the sonic differences between the V30 and G12T-75. I've tried to eliminate as many variables as possible by using the same Amp, Guitar, Microphone, Cables, Mic Placement, Interface and Room. This has allowed for the truest representation of the speakers sound, creating an accurate platform for listeners to judge which speaker they like best.

I prefer the V30, but the T75 has its place. I like the punch of the V30. But the scooped nature of the T75 is useful when taming a harsh amp. A while ago when I was trying to figure out which speaker route to go, I couldn't find many accurate recordings to judge. A few have popped up since then but I always wanted to do one myself. So here we go!

Are those speakers new?  V30s can sound a bit harsh and farty until broken in. Also are you running a lot of presence?

The T75 is definitely scooped sounding.

People often mix these two speakers in 412 cabs

I've got a Marshall cab with 2 stock G12T-75's and 2 V30's in an X formation. Its not been fully broken in I don't think had them fitted last April but haven't played many gigs with it as alot of the gigs we've played has been cab share.

I do notice a brighter tone and better cut in the mix, both compliment each other well.

My experience with V30's is that they can sound a bit unbalanced (uppermid peak) when you play home alone, but sit very nice in the bandmix on stage. If you hate the V30's uppermid peak WGS has a V30-equivalent - the Veteran - with smoother uppermids.

Crank your Peavey post gain up to 3 on the lead channel and blast around six hours or so at that level (not all at once, you'll drive people nuts).  That's probably all you need to finish breaking them in.  You need to put them through their range to break them in.  If they don't go through their full travel for a while they will never really break in.

I replaced my v30 with a  G12H 55, and I much prefer that vintage tone, I found the v30 had too much high mid peak, but it can be good mixed with other speakers.

Some sound guy's don't like me playing above 2.5 haha. And I can't really put it on 3 in the house, unless I want the glass to smash! But yeah I'll just need to use it more at gigs and maybe bring it to a rehearsal or two, and turn it up.
