Neck pickup for my ES-335 Dot
« on: June 10, 2015, 01:48:17 AM »
First off thanks for the recommendations on my Les Paul.

I also have an Epiphone ES-335 Dot Studio with a Gibson Dirty Fingers in the Bridge (not changing that). The guitar is all Maple. Does anyone have any recommendations for a neck pickup? I want a neck pickup that sounds kind of like a Tele but more full and a lot of output so I don't have to boost it for solos.

I was going to say get a Mule, but getting a tele sound from it is a tough call!  You could always make it parallel wired, which would give you a thinner sound, but then have a switch to go back to series for solos.  Using a push/pull pot would save putting an extra switch on the guitar.
So many pickups, so little time

One option would be to get a Riff Raff neck. With its low output but alnico 5 magnet it will drive the top end nicely. I use the Riff Raff bridge for a tele-like tone myself.

you could always check out this product that allows the use of an actual tele neck pickup to mount a gibson style rout.

they do a bridge version too. and that goes for both strat pickups and tele pickups.

Even a low output humbucker will have much more output than a Tele neck pickup.

I had good results with Firebird or mini humbuckers for a bright clear tone with more output than a Tele neck.

RiffRaff-neck or a humbuckersized p90 like the Bluenote-neckpickup.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
