Irish tours for floyd?

As the title suggests, would a irish tour set be best suited to pink floyd cleans?

I would go for Apaches or possibly Mother's Milks.  I have Apaches and Irish Tours but not Mother's Milks.  I think the clean is sweeter on the Apaches and this is more of the sound that Dave Gilmour gets.
So many pickups, so little time

+1 although Irish Tours do have more power for the driven type tones.

I'd go with the mothers milk for 70s David Gilmour, Triolgies for late 80s early 90s (they are nice and clear with lots of volume, remind me of EMGs) or the Apaches  for the tone of David's older strats like he got at the Fender Strat concert a while back.

Hope that hasn't really confused you!!

Well I have not tried the MM's ( maybe I will get some for my 1960's r/i Strat) but the Apache's are excellent. I took both guitars to a gig Saturday night- I used only the Apache loaded Strat though I used the stock one during a sound check-Apaches are superior to the stock Fender mass produced pups- which are not bad but sound harsh in comparision. It is in a gig situation that they show their mettle. HJM did do a series of clips with Apaches, MM's and ( I think) I Tours ( correct me if I am wrong HJM)- you will find it in the players forum- if I get the chance I will post the link.

Another +1 for the Irish Tours. I have them in the neck and middle of my main Strat and they deliver big time. Great clean tones, I can really dial the Gilmour tone in and with the drive, well... who needs EMGs?  :)

Im only after a middle pickup that will be used pretty much entirely for nice cleans (slow arpegiated stuff), NO real drive requred. So would the apaches be my best bet?

No go on the sultans...arent they the ''kings of supreme clean guitar''?

i'd say if your neck is maple then Apaches - if your neck is rosewood then Mother's Milks - That's my personal choice based on my two strats, I think the sound of the respective pup works best that way (I had my apache in the rosewood neck at first but it came to life when I put it in the maple one).

Effectively Apaches are 50s strat (which is not to say weak, listen to Gilmour's No.1 strat or Richard Thompson for non weak 50s strats) and Milks are more 60s strat (because of the Alnico 5).  But Irish Tours do great cleans too.

Too many choices, not enough guitars....

This was a question I was going to ask as it saves me the bother ;)

From the demos I noticed that the Mothers Milk seemed to have a (pardon me sounding like a pretencious wine taster) warm woody tone which really appealed to me, but wanting a Gilmourish tone I wasn't too sure about getting them for my Mexican Strat.

Still I have about 400 quid expenses being paid back to me in a couple of weeks so parhaps I will finally become a bareknuckle owner.

I like you I was deliberating between Irish tours, mothers milk and possibly apaches.  In the end I went for the irish tour set and love 'em.

Although rory gallagher maybe more generally known for his awsome biting distorted tones he could still get your classic generic vintage strat clean tones that rivaled all the other big gunners - Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Gilmour et al ........ so don't let that put you off seriously considering them.

Don't forget that pups will only get you so far towards a particuler sound......... there's your tone volume settings on the guitar....... your choice of amp + amp settings........... string/pick guage etc. and most importantly you and what you do with your little pinkies !!

I guess the mothers milk and irish tours will come to a point sound wise where they overlap according to your instrument set up but then head off more in opposite extremes .........i.e. mothers milk slightly sweeter cleans - irish tours capable of more powerful distorted type tones, but I reckon they'ed meet in the middle somewhere.

I'm sure can get Mothers milks to howl and scream when you want them to, like wise you can get Irish tours to clean up nicley and give beautiful classic sparkling tones.

Hope that helps ?!?!?!?!

Does any one know what tracks does Gilmour use the #1 strat for?

Out of the apaches, mothers milks and irish tours, which generally have the nicest crystal cleans?
