new stratocaster needs pickups
« on: July 12, 2015, 11:52:18 AM »
Hi guys,

i ha just purchased a new stratocaster, 1995 electric blue, and i'm thinking about replacing pickups. The guitar has tbx tone control at bridge position and has maple neck but it ain't bright as other stratocasters i'v owned in the past. Anyway i'm still looking for a fat set of pickups and i'm considering fender fat 50's, irish tour with baseplate in bridge position or slow hands. I will play mostly distorted rock tones and some classic clean and distorted like Hendrix or Mccready. What do you suggest?

thanks

Slowhands, with perhaps a baseplate on the bridge. They still have enough vintage chime for Hendrix and can rock out. You can also elaborate on a Slowhand-bridge and Irish Tours in the middle- and neckposition. In a projectband I play some Hendrix and SRV on the IT-neck. Good pickup, with a bit more mids, bass and less topend than the Mother's Milk.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

slow hands might be more appropriate but i'm really tempted by Irish tour with baseplate on the bridge.... :undecided:

Thanks. The colour is the main reason i bought it 😁
For the pickups i think i'll go for the slow hands since the description on the site and the reviews are good. They might suit my needs. is there anyone who had experience with them?

I've a strat with Slowhands and a Duo Sonic with Irish tours.

They are both excellent. The Slowhands are a bit hotter and a bit darker. For Hendrix you will be better with the Irish Tour, but I think for general distorted rock you will be better with the Slowhands.

Its a toss up between the sets and you wont go wrong with either.

For sure get a bridge baseplate on what you get.
