Stormy Monday Phase Question
« on: July 15, 2015, 04:57:50 AM »
Hi All
I am new here and I am looking for some advice. I have a 1987 Les Paul with 300/100k volume and tone controls. These I am upgrading to 500k/50’s wiring.
My pickup choice has been Stormy Mondays. My question is, would it be worth adding a push pull in one location to put the pickups in/out of phase?
Thanks Hayden

If you do like the out of phase sound (I don't) then it is a worthwile option. But at least one of the pickups would need a four conductor wire where the shield (the blank wire) is separated from the signal wires. The single shielded wire will not work well for this purpose since in the out of phase position the shield would carry the hot signal.

Cheers Stephan

I agree - if you like the out of phase sound, yeah do it, and you'll need at least one pickup to be four conductor.

I personally don't find a lot of use for it. If I was going to do anything, I might be interested in having an option for outer coils of both pickups - in that case both pickups need to be four conductor.

Good choice of pickups :cheesy:, had mine since January in a Les Paul Traditional, haven't put the guitar down since (and I'm a strat-player!). I've found a HUGE range of tones from these pickups just using standard wiring and controls. Mine's wired "modern" - I don't get on with 50s - and I didn't even bother changing, or even checking, the pots (I did actually buy a set to put in, but it worked "as is" for me when the Stormies went in, and I haven't stopped playing it long enough to get the soldering iron out again. The pots'll probably get used in something else now)
