I would think this sound is a job for the Miracle Man.

Apparently they love maple neck guitars if you are looking to go the superstrat route with Floyd Rose etc.  Jackson Soloist etc

Well the MM bridge is the most scooped BKP and the most old school death metal sounding, that's why I suggested it.  The other one that would get you close is the Cold Sweat, or the ceramic Nailbomb if you want something a little more hairy.

the holy diver should work pretty well with a pedal
just have in mind that it's smoother and lower output than the cold sweat

You should ask the BKP staff.

I'd be really surprised if they didn't recommend the Miracle Man, but who knows?  To me it seems like the obvious choice for this application.

No worries.

I just think that the MM is more scooped and has more lows than the CS.  I have the CS in one of my SGs and I am thinking of trying a MM in there next just because that pickup has fascinated me for a while and the CS doesn't really hit those heavier tones.

I would say that the CS is great for everything from Judas Priest to Pantera.  Old school DM perhaps to go a little more bassy, not a huge amount, but enough, and with more overall output.  To me it seems like the mid scoop in the MM would be bigger, with more highs and more lows.  This is the impression I keep getting of it from reviews.  I have also seen people with maple necks recommend it a lot, which is one reason why I thought it might work for you.

I have to admit that I have not been consistently impressed with the recommendations of the BKP staff recently.  I think that they can give good recommendations, but that this depends largely on the way the question is put to them, which basically involves telling them you have this or that guitar they are familiar with or a combination of woods that they have  a lot of experience with and can either give them a clear account of precisely what EQ stuff you need or relate it to a genre that they are are very familiar with.  I suspect that they haven't spent a lot of time listening to Possessed, Celtic Frost, or Autopsy and when you say 'old school death metal' they just think 'EMGs'

I personally cannot imagine the HD being an improvement on the CS for this application at all.

I also tend to think that the BH will give too 'deathcore' a sound for what you want

C-Bomb is too hairy

Unless you are going for something like Beneath the Remains or Seven Churches sound I would avoid it as that's the kind of thing you really can't dial out.  Many people refer to the NB as 'nineties metal', by which they seem to mean Machine Head et al

I have an A-bomb in my Explorer but the darkness of that guitar tones down the hairiness of the A-Bomb a lot.  I had it in my SG and it was extreme

The C-bomb has the same basic wind of an A-Bomb but the ceramic magnet tones down the mids a bit

I was tossing up CS vs MM for my SG when I decided to replace the NB and this is what Ben from BKP said to me then FYI:

Quote
Hi David,

It does sound like you'd benefit from a ceramic magnet pickup. The Miracle Man and Cold Sweat bridges have pronounced mid-scoop which could work for you.

They are both bright and tight (from the ceramics), but the MM is thicker and a lot more powerful. The CS bridge is crisper and very clear - a real 'Pro' choice.

You offered quite a range of bands - classic and very heavy, but it looks like you focus on the more extreme end of styles. With that in mind I reckon the Miracle Man bridge would suit very well.

Kind Regards,

Ben
