Hi everyone! I just installed an Apache-Mule HSS set and I'm really happy how it turned out. It replaced a whole set of Haussel Classic single coil pickups and while the Haussels are sweet and detailed, the BKP's sound fitted more to my blues-rock application by adding more output and gain range while retaining the qualities I liked about the Haussels.
Ben recommended me in the email that I may like an Abaraxas for the bridge but I went for a Mule because I heard the Abraxas on a friend's Les Paul and it tightened the bass on that guitar. Since a Strat-type guitar's scale already makes the bass tight, I wouldn't want it to be even tighter. The Mule delivered the goods and I'm really satisfied with its fullness and balance of warmth and punch.
The Apaches on the other hand have long been my favorite single coils since I had them in an Edwards Strat copy and I missed their fatness and detail when I switched to the '63 veneer back then. The '63 is a nice pickup too but I think my ears just got so used to the Apache sound. So on this guitar, I made sure that I have them again and as expected, they sound fat and chimey and for me, they respond well to overdrives.
