Underoath tones & your brilliant minds
« on: August 21, 2015, 07:31:04 PM »
hey im sorry for bothering you  guuys but i just wanted a quick recommendations
i recently just bought a jim root fender telecaster( mahogany body, ebony board 25.5" scale length bolt on neck)
it came with emgs in it but im not a super big fan of them and after playing bareknuckles nothing else will do.
i play rock. hardcore/post-hardcore/alternative/pop punk. i use alot of mid and high gain tones and even some cleans.
im looking for a pickup that can kill lead tones and pull off amazing riff and chugs rhythms as well.
heres a few songs of music styles i enjoy and the tone im after

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkkwsvcLkjg      ( i want to be able to do chugs like this)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExlaQBvEXOw      (this one is like the perfect example of the tone i want!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bupP3PDd_BU       (and still be able to play some leads like this)

one of my friends suggested the nailbomb but for some reason  i could never get into it from the demos ive heard ( but if that's what you guys would recommend i can just suck it up and order it because im going  off of youtube videos of it so)
i was looking at the Juggernaut ive heard nothing but amazing things about that ...
i own  holydiver already.( i love it!)
i have a marshall jvm 205 and a orange jim root terror ( im not obsessed with jim root i just like his gear ) running into 2 orange 2x12

anyways guys help me decide!
thanks in advance

I'm an ADTR fan, and I've tried to get gear that matches closely to what they use, I'm too am not a big fan of EMG's that much.

I have a ceramic nailbomb in my main band guitar which is a Gibson LP studio, play in drop c. Had the aftermath in it before. I'm primarily the rhythm guy in the band so for what I want to do it works well. I use a 6505+ head and use EB Not Even Slinky 12-56 strings.

The Aftermath pickup I had before that was good, and definitely cut through a live mix and gave me more power but was too middy and more for "Djent-y" type tones. Once I switched that out for a Nailbomb the bottom end was back and so was the brightness of the top end sparkle. I've recently disconnected my tone knob too which I believe a Jim Root Tele hasn't got one either which affects the sound in a good way for me, makes the signal hotter and brighter.

I boost my lead channel sound on the 6505+ with an Ibanez Tubescreamer and I think its a sound I'm happy with for now. If I do "cleans" it'll be the rhythm channel with the crunch button pushed in to give it some breakup, its not too bad on the cleans, though I only upgraded the bridge pickup, the neck is still stock and isn't too bad in the middle position with both in use. But I don't spend too much time doing cleans.

I haven't tried any of the other humbuckers in the BKP range so I can't really comment on them, Juggernaut/Painkiller/Black Hawk might be some suggestions.

I'd go with the alnico nailbomb, but the c-bomb or miracle man should work pretty well too

Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

haha just when i thought i had my mind made up you cgime in and completly re loop me. tim reccomended the jugg.
im not a huge fan of ceramic magnets so if i got the nall bomb it would proabably be alnico... but in most the videos i seen theres just something about it and i cant figure out what... but i dont like it

Damn, do you still keep in contact with them now? I would like them to hear about my band lol. CC is a great album, got a bit of everything on there from pop punk to screamo breakdowns, to acoustic ballads to ambient stuff. Great progression from the earlier stuff.

The other guitar I have the alnico one is usually in standard or drop d. It does act as a back up to my band guitar should anything go wrong during a gig. Its more fuller and aggressive sounding but I like it and it kinda suits the guitar. It gives me all sorts of sounds from full out metal to old school rock n roll if I back off the volume so I get alot of tones from it.

This was recorded using my main band guitar, the LP studio with a ceramic nailbomb in the bridge. Was actually going through a 5150 on the rhythm channel with a ts9 to boost, sounded clearer and fatter.

I usually use a 6505+ but in the studio the 5150 kinda sounded fatter through an Orange 4 x 12. There was also a Marshall JCM800 in there that was close to the sound I wanted.

Unfortunately I don't have any recordings with the alnico Nailbomb but I hope the recording with the ceramic helped!

Other things like string gauge and stuff make a difference too, I've been considering going to 13-62 gauge!

Ah shame, doesn't help I never catch them when they're in the UK, they always seem to play and I can't make it!

For that kind of sound you should keep the alnico version of the Black Hawk in mind.

Not sure how it fits with the acoustic qualities of your guitar though
