Any one with juggs.
« on: August 25, 2015, 05:58:22 PM »
So recently I was talking to a friend and they ended up telling me the juggernauts are not to great. Not warm. Super compressed. Nasally, sterile&the worst bare knuckle pup.(this guy usually knows his stuff I'm not trying to blast him)
And that it was completely opposite of the Holydiver I have.
From everything I've took that they weren't super compressed, they definitely had sone life. Can anyone with the juggernauts chime in? I'm looking for a day to remember/underoath tone I took the jugs as a aftermath with a alnico flavoring which is exactly what I wanted. It should do mid gains a bit better. I know the jugs have a lot of mods but does that make them nasally? It's going into a mahogany guitar with a ebony board it should be very well balanced right? The treble cut worried me I want to be able to get amazing leads from it but Ive heard some demos where it absolutely slays so I wanted to get your opinions
Thanks guys

I intended to order one, but a friend said it is pretty dry sounding in his guitar, so I ended up with my third holy diver
I have mixed feelings about most of the clips I heard
it's got something I call "rectifier mids" that makes it sound pretty good for some sorts of tone, but not really my thing

if you already ordered it, BKP has a return policy, even if you try it first and eventually don't like it

Hi,
I have a set of Juggs in a Warmoth build (swamp ash/all Pau Ferro neck strat) and really love them. They are not dry at all and have everything you want..juice...girth..grit..definition..very reactive to the volume knob..in short awesome. They actually replaced a set of Cbombs..They were just to harsh and aggressive sounding in that wood/neck combo. I have them wired to a 5 way with position 2 and 4 wired in split parallel...the in betweens are just beautiful on the clean tones. With the alnico/ceramic combo you really get the best of both worlds. The neck is nice and full and smooth, and doesn't smear under high gain. I also have a set in a 7421 Ibby (mohag/maple/rosewood)...very nice there too..Give them a shot..really great pickups.

If this is the case for your friend I would recommend he sends them in for a health check as it sounds like there might be a phase issue with them which I'm happy to check over for him. Could you get him to give me a call at the workshop please? - 01326 341313

We all have different ears and BKP's are VERY picky about which guitars they go into unlike any other brands.

The juggs are not really the opposite of the holy diver infact several people have said they're like a 'tight' holy diver.  Tighter low end and, less round but still warm and lots of cut in the mids and treble.

There are some BKP models that I wouldn't want to be without and some I've tried that left me flat. Many factors involved and the world will keep spinning if there is a model that doesn't work for someone.

FWIW they're far less dry than the Aftermaths.
They DO share a bit of the HD dna, more tight, less organic i would say but way more than the aftermath which can feel a bit surgical at time.

Thank you guys! I ordered one and you guys killed any doubt I had. It was between those and the Blackhawks(al) I think I made the right choice especially if it's similar to the Holydiver.

Agreed.  I think the Juggs are like a combination of the aftermath and the holy diver.

Juggernauts are dark sounding pickups and I can definitely see where they would not get along in the wrong instrument.  That being said, bright guitars  (Superstrats like what Misha uses) are really quite perfect.  I'd say the Juggernauts are really quite fantastic for anyone who wants to play heavy music and have access to great clean tones, great rhythm tones, and great lead tones.  The pickups do sound good under lower gain but the voice is still decidedly modern.  I'd go so far as to say they're possibly my favourite offering from BKP and possibly the best pickups I have ever used.

I find them to be warm, articulate, tight, clear, and huge sounding.  They have a great feel for leads and solos as well as being percussive and tight for rhythm.  Great clarity and string separation as well.  And the cleans are warm and gorgeous, surprisingly so for pickups that are designed for heavy music.  Once again, just a word of warning.  They're unrepentantly modern sounding so if you want a more vintage voice, get a different pickup.
