I get a decent amount of bass with the CS in my Gibson SG. Not huge, but definitely more than say a Rebel Yell, Emerald, or Riff Raff. I had an A-Bomb in the same guitar and it didn't have any more bass that I could notice, it just had a lot more by way of raspy mids and more output overall. In terms of thrash tones, in the SG the only thrash sort of tones I got from the A-Bomb were Sepultura and Possessed. It wasn't good for any of the more scooped tones. In many ways I'd say that the A-Bomb is more of a hardcore pickup, whereas the CS is more of a metal pickup. I see the MM as a more extreme version of the CS. I imagine its cleans are not as good even if it has more bottom end. I find I have enough bottom end for '80s thrash stuff, and you have to remember that an SG doesn't provide much bass acoustically, being a very mid-focused guitar, so in a more bassy guitar the guitar will provide some itself.
