New Amp Day!
« on: September 28, 2015, 07:50:49 PM »

i picked up this beauty last week. i've been looking at Mesa Boogie Electra Dynes for quite some time. i've always been a mesa fan but i had been wanting to explore the vintagey british style tone a bit more and people kept mentioning this amp so i found a guy selling one close by and took a chance. and i love this amp. so much so that i'm working on selling all my other amps. it can get heavy when i need it too but nothing CRUSHING like my mesa roadster which is fine. i dont really play anything like that anymore. this electra dyne just feels more organic, if that makes any sense. and just has more of a warmth to it. side note, i wouldve bought the head version over the combo since i have a few nice cabs but the deal on this one that i was able to make was just too good. i managed to get it for $1000. wasnt sure if i'd like the c90 speaker in it but i'm really liking it so far.

heres a quick demo i did mic'd with a shure sm57. the mic'd tone i got was decent but it still sounds immensely better in person

Congrats! Looks fab in cream tolex with brown handle. Does it has two 12 inch speakers or board or 10's?

Classy! Congrats. That can indeed sound more agressive than I expected and I do believe you when you say itīs bigger in person. Prefered the first tele tone (Piledriver IIRC?) to the SH. End of the 10th is also nice. I think the mid gain of the tele held up best through the mic. With the high gain some added distortion seems to be there. Then again, I am usually not a big fan of the SM57 if it has not gotten proper post treatment, which is why I usually used my E906 for live mixes. Easier to place too.

Anyhow, really nice amp looking deceptivly small and calm.

It looks like a 2x12/10 inch cab. Anyway, 1x12 must sound huge through in a big cab like this.

Looks lovely and sounds pretty blinking good too. I loved the ES335 section particularly. Thanks for taking the trouble to do the video.

yeah so far the 335 is really getting the best tones out of the amp. was doing a lot of pushed clean stuff tonight and it was doin reaaaal good.

yeah it definitely has a really full sound. i always sort of steered away from 1x12's for the fear of it not sounding full and fat enough but its doing a great job

Hey, you GOT ONE!!!  One of the most underrated amps out there, in my opinion.  Vintage low is wonderfully rich, detailed, and dynamic.  It's compressed in a nice way but it cleans up beautifully nonetheless.  The clean is monstrous and vintage high is punk rock dream tone!!   Great, expressive lead tone too, if a bit squirrelly in terms of feel.

The Electra Dyne really likes the Juggernaut, huh?  This was my experience at least, as I got some great rhythm rock tones on Vintage Hi with that pickup.  What boost pedal were you using?

What pickup / guitar combinations do you like with your Roadster?  I find that my Recto really likes the Rebel Yell bridge for crunch tones, especially for clarity and tightness.  The Rebel Yell handled drop B well although I'm not a fan of that low a tuning on a 24.75 scale instrument.

Hearing that clip with your Strat and the Juggerbridge really makes me want a 7 string superstrat.  I think I told you I'd like a Torpedo Live for silent recording but man, I really love the idea of a 7 string where I can have the extended low range without loosing the upper end as well.  Then I can leave the rock axes in E or Eb standard where they belong ^_^

Wow, you actually flipped your Roadster?  I held onto my Recto because I figured that I was drawn to it in the first place for a reason.  That being said, I have A/B'd it against a roadster and I like it a lot more.  I don't know what you think, but I much preferred channel 1 and 2 on the Roadster to 3 and 4.

It's awesome!  That's the sort of thing I'd like from a guitar but finances have not been so accommodating lately!

very nice!

i'd love to own some more Mesa gear. I have some Mesa cabs and they are built like a tank and sound phenomenal. I bet the 1x12 in the combo sounds huge.

i hadnt been using the roadster almost at all the past few months. plus i need to keep some money aside for a custom guitar build thats finishing up soon. honestly the only thing thats really missing from my setup is a nice little metal amp. like maybe the mini peavey 6505 or something. the new orange micro dark looks cute too.

also, i dont know if i mentioned before but i had the mini mark V mesa for a little while. i honestly wouldve kept that over the roadster but once i bought the axefx, i knew i had to sell one and i knew the mark v (being nearly brand new to the market) would sell faster.
