Pickups for Telecaster Kit

Hi! I just received my Tele kit from Thomann, and I'm doubtful about routing for a humbucker in the bridge (I would throw a Blackhawk in there) or leave it as it is and throw a Cobra T or Piledriver


I'm going for a punkish,metalcore/post core sound (A Day To Remember and stuff) without losing al the Tele character, to do ambience cleans

Accepting options for neck too, singles and humbuckers (the neck pick has hum route)

Would the Cobra T or Piledriver work for what I want, avoiding the pain in the ass of routing?

IŽd say Piledriver with a 4 way. Still tele, but bigger, more agressive, being able to keep up with the sound you want. 4 way helps to get more great sounds. It was recently discussed here that you should probably get 500k pots for those as they seemed to lack a bit with traditional tele values.

I'd be curious to hear the Cobra T

Could be interesting, but for punkish post core the Piledriver just feels more on the money. If this were full on modern metal or metalcore the Cobra would be more viable. I do however just imagine it to a be a tad more clean, defined, smoothed out if you will. The way modern PUs often are compared to the mediums. Maybe more like a ceramic version of a pickup, you know? For this the Piledriver just feels more appropriate to me.

Plus then youŽd have to look for a matching neck to pair it with, which would likely again be the Piledriver. Should work together, but the set is proven to work spot on.

That's the dilemma I'm in, I would like a tone that it isn't too far from an EMG or a BlackHawk in the bridge, that tightness and punch, would the Cobra T do that?

The driver sounds more tele like and more agressive in that clip than the song you posted, but I see it in the ballpark. Only that the piledriver has more of that punky edge.

Cobra clips are much harder to find since they are so new.

Personally I would like to see BKP make a Tele pickup to compete with the SD Quarter Pound.  That is the most raucous pickup I've heard in a Tele, at least when wired straight to the jack.  I think all the BKP Tele pickups are much more refined.
