Well-splitable neck humbucker
« on: September 29, 2015, 09:04:07 AM »
Cheers guys!
I am recently filling the spec for my custom Avernus guitar which will be some twist on classic tele.
I was thinking about having Flat 50 set (now I have flat 50 in the bridge position of my alder PRS CE24 and absolutely love it) but a few days ago one thought came to my mind - Maybe I should try a splitable humbucker in the neck position?

After a few years of playing I now that I have to have two guitar sounds in my rig - classic dual humbucker sound and turbo-tele one (Flat 50s, yeah!).
But to be honest - recently I just play my CE24 with tele pickups, because I'm too lazy to carry two guitars for my rehearsals. Flat 50 bridge pickup handles gain so well that I can play whole set on it, and only one thing stops me from having only one guitar - sound of the neck humbucker, and that's why splitable neck humbucker came to my mind - If I have a guitar with well splitting humb in the neck position and flat 50 I think I'll be able to have both convincing sound of single coil an humbucker for live performances and rehearsals and if I'd want to have real single coil neck sound for studio, I always could borrow my friend Fender Custom shop strat or simply swap neck humbucker for single coil in my guitar...

Can somebody post some sound samples of your neck BKP's both in traditional humbucker and split mode? I am especially curious for sound of Emerald and VHII, because I think I would choose one from them.

Cheers and keep on rocking :)

The VHII is the best sounding neck pickup I have ever played, both split and humbucking! Honestly I do not think you can go wrong with it.
BKs: Black Dog (b), Riff Raff (b), HSP90 Nantucket (b).
