new gear day. oh baby...
« on: October 15, 2015, 01:48:51 PM »

recently fell in love with this custom PRS 53/10 McCarty at a local guitar center. long story short, it was made for a touring artist so its very odd spec. huge fat neck, custom burnt chrome pickups, adjustable wrapparound bridge, satin finish on a super nice quilt top. i played it and i had to have it. i never played another prs like it and when i found out it was a one-off deal i knew i'd never find another like it. got a great deal on it too. 5 years old. a little worn in and it plays so good.

i recently uploaded a cover using this guitar. check it out if you're interested!

Nice new axe man!

Sounds great on the video link, its also nice to see someone showing some animation when they are playing in front of the camera, rather than the stock "I don't want you looking at me looking bored" face lol.

Are you going to change the pickups out or going to keep the stock ones in? Which ones would you get if you wanted to switch?

Not a big PRS fan myself, so, thankfully, I'm immune to looking at pics like this!

It's a fab looking geetar, and I like the sound of that neck.

Big congratulations! :)

at this point i'm keeping the original pickups in there. they're working really well. if i decided to change them i'd probably go with juggernauts. i had them in my old les paul custom for a short while which was also mahogany/maple and that thing sang.

also thanks everyone! and sorry kiichi lol

Ah cool, I've been looking at PRS's too as an alternative to my main band guitar, they hold drop tunings well apparently, I've seen bands from All Time Low to Alter Bridge to Nickelback using them. Don't know what BKP's I'd put in them though.

Nice!   Do you know what colour it is?  It looks similar to my McCarty, although yours has a much more highly figured top!
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

a new guitar day always deserves a congratulations!

the wraparound bridge and burnt chrome look great.

for me the back of these PRSs are some of the prettiest pictures. lovely wood there. looks like a very solid instrument.

so far this one is holding tuning veeeery well. i'd also consider the rebel yell pickups

no clue what the color is but i'm going to shoot prs an email and see if i can get any info!

If it is a dark, low mid focused instrument, you'll LOVE Revel Yells in it.  Especially if you are using a high gain amp with it ^_^

whoa
that's the sweetest mccarty I've seen
had a couple myself, but they were far from this level of beauty
I love satin nitro finishes
makes it look pretty much like a modern eagle
for some reason, mccarties are quite overlooked compared to the custom, CE, singlecut and modern eagle models
I really don't get it

ok so i managed to find out more about this instrument through emailing them and through some searching online

from the prs email:
Quote
This appears to be a 2010 53/10, quilted Private Stock grade maple top, mahogany neck with a wide/fat carve, East Indian rosewood fretboard, Black Slate finish with 53/10 pickups. The 53/10 model was part of a limited run we did in 2010.

and i managed to find a couple pages online that sold one at one point and still had the original sale spec and everything like this one here...
http://www.gbase.com/gear/prs-paul-reed-smith-53-10-2010-black-slate

and here are some specs from another site

Quote
From A Limited Run of 100 Pieces
Body:

    One Piece Lightweight Mahogany Back
Bookmatched Carved "Private Stock" Quilted Maple Top
    Ultra-Thin PF09 "Semi-Gloss" Nitrocellulose Finish

Neck:

    One Piece Peruvian Mahogany Neck
    "Select" Rosewood Fingerboard
    10" Fretboard Radius
    "Wide Fat" Neck Profile
PRS Low Mass Locking Tuners with "Faux Bone" Buttons
Pink Heart Abalone "Old School Birds In Flight" Inlays
    22 Frets
    25" Scale Length
    Rosewood Headstock Veneer

Bridge:

"Hybrid" Nickel/Gold Plated Standard PRS StopTail Bridge

Pickups/Electronics:

PRS "53/10" Humbucking in Bridge Position
PRS "53/10" Humbucking Pickup in Neck Position
    "Torched" Pickup Covers
    Three-Way Pickup Selector
    Master Volume and Tone Controls
    Coil Tap on Tone Control

mine was upgraded with the adjustable tail piece which is cool . so far i havent been able to find out if it was a 100 piece run for each color that was made (found 3 different colors so far) or if it was 100 total. one site even had it listed as a 5310 custom 22 but i think its closer to a mccarty than a c22 but i dont know.

either way i love this instrument.
