Vintage S/S amp repair
« on: March 29, 2006, 12:20:37 PM »
Hi, just bought a Sound City Artiste Pro 30 Combo in good condition physically, soundwise its giving me a headache- literally!
giving out a pulsing buzz/hum and background hiss, problem being I can't find any schematics for it as its quite a rare amp, we think it might be a leaky transistor and filter cap. The circuit board itself isn't that big, theres no separate gain control(I think the tone controls maybe active- no vol when bass-mid-treble are at zero)
Anybody experienced in troubleshooting? advice welcome  :(
Sorry about the long post

i guess i would stick a sine wave in and probe around it with a 'scope.

you wouldn't use the meat knife on crusty bread but, equally, the serrated knife and straight edge knife aren't going to go through raw meat as quickly
