Is it safe? Is it safe? ...
« on: January 10, 2016, 02:41:05 AM »
Hey guys,
this Bass amp I've acquired has a post EQ DI out on the rear panel. I'm assuming it's low level, "unpowered" signal that can go straight into the XLR on my computer's audio interface, but wanted to check my facts before plugging it in. I just want to be uber-safe!

It's a Trace Elliot GP12SMX, if that helps? I've downloaded the PDF manual, but it just says it can be run into the low impedance mic inputs of a mixing desk. Essentially I just want to use it to record the post EQ signal directly into my DAW.

Good to go? Or recipe for melted interface / burst eardrums?

Just seen this. If it says it can run into the low impedance mic inputs of a desk, I'd take that as "cool ready to roll" into the same thing on your audio interface, especially as it's labelled "DI" as well. If it was mine, I'd plug it in and see what happened (I'd have the levels, everywhere, down to start with).

This morning I had my "sensible" head on and gave it a go, cheers for the reply dude. :D

Yeah I just went straight from DI into my interface, worked a treat! Got a really nice sound right into Cubase so required very little messing with. I did mic the cab up, too, so I have two signals to mix with, but actually apart from the weaker mic level, it sounded pretty similar.

So, that's that little confidence hurdle jumped over... NEXT! :P
