I have a JTM45 type amp with original KT66s. This is paired with a closed back 2x12 cab with Tayden True Brit which are made here in the UK and very similar in tone to the old G12M Celestion Greenback, maybe a little bit less spikey in the high mids.
These speakers are great for cutting British rock tones but I always found the low end a bit too shy (specially in a closed back cab) and a bit 'nervous'-sounding around the 3 to 5k region where our hearing is most sensitive, specially clean.
Clean playing in the style of John Mayer round the time when he recorded the 'Where the light is' using the Taydens is just not possible. The speakers just fight back against me every time I reach for those tones.
Now the new A-type speakers from Celestion are supposed to sound like a broken-in Greenback in the high end but with smoother mids and a solid, thumpy low end.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=086lYtZ7xP8If you look at the freq chart you can see a strong bass response but also a very pleasing and musical peak at around 1.6k (very unusual) and a dramatic roll-off straight after the 5 khz mark which results in a tone that lacks those ice-pick highs that can sound so annoying and harsh.

These can be bought for £69 inc delivery in the UK so I decided to give it a go and swap one of the Taydens for the A type.
Just received it and it looks great. Haven't tried it properly yet but its construction looks quite good (not as good as my UK made Taydens though). Tone, however, has little to do with construction. We'll see.... expectations are high! !!!!!
