Will these pickups work well in a mahogany guitar? I'm hoping they won't sound too dark

Just mahogany or mahogany with maple top? I have HDs in a Les Paul Custom and had it in a les Paul Standard. I wouldn't say it's dark sounding. It's thick, with edge but more on the singing side that the hairiness you can find in a Rebel Yell, PKs,... I have to say that I love this thick with lots of mids tone and that I wouldn't say les Pauls are dark guitars (at least mine). Resonant, full sounding, yes but not dark.

I should also say that I noticed a significant difference between covered and uncovered HDs in my Les Pauls. I red many times that it should be a subtle difference but with the HDs, for me and in my guitars was more than subtle. I have covers in Rebel Yells, Mules and Painkillers, in mahogany guitars and never had a problem. But with the HDs I missed some edge. Taking the covers off was life changing. I guess that in pickups/guitar combination where the highs are not predominant, the effect of the tamed highs from the cover could be more significant.

I never tried HDs in a mahogany guitar whithout maple top. After my experience with the covers and HDs, I don't how how the absence of a maple top can affect to the overall sound. It should be darker, but I don't know if enough to make it dark sounding, without edge.

in my experience, it only didn't work well in a gibson SG
it actually sounded killer for leads, but the rhythm tone was too mushy for bkp standards
it sounded great in every les paul I tried and that seems to be rule for superstrats too

just curious about how it would sound in a V or Explorer
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Mahogany guitars can be quite bright or really dark, maple cap or not. I put a Holydiver in a Suhr Modern with mahogany body/neck and maple cap, which is a quite bright guitar, and the Diver just smokes! Of course I cannot tell by the picture, but the Ibanez I had with mahogany body was quite bright so I think the Diver should work quite well in your guitar
BKs: Black Dog (b), Riff Raff (b), HSP90 Nantucket (b).

The Diver definitely loves bright guitars.

Cheers Stephan

it's a 7string guitar? I didn't know. I'm curious about how the low B string works with the HD.

Nicely for me in a 7 string Dean Superstrat from mahahony that is on the bright side. Full on 80s rooted sound. Love it cause I grew up on that type, just like the RY and my 10th set all are childhood sounds. Works great for hard rock, 80s metal and earlier Dream Theater stuff. Certainly never felt like I had an issue with it for what I play. If I did have an amp other than an Orange TT (sides a 5w Fender) I recon I could push it a good bit further too.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

I had the HD neck on a 7 in the past and that was the best BKP I owned, in fact every BKP I've purchased has been for extended range guitars and worked, I expect the HD bridge to be no different!

Can't wait to stick these babies in
