How bright is the Riff Raff bridge?

The subject header says it all. I am wondering if the Riff Raff would be too bright or shrill in the bridge position of my Heritage H555, which I am thinking is a fairly bright guitar already; I know ES335s, in general, are fairly dark, but the Heritage has a maple center block as opposed to Mahogany, in addition to having maple laminate sides, top, back. Would a Riff Raff push it into spikey territory? I am still leaning towards an Abraxas bridge/Mule neck, or a Mule set.

The last options you mention are good ones for that guitar. RiffRaff can be on the bright side, but it depends also a little on the guitar. A darker sounding one would benefit from RR's.

It's fairly bright but not overly bright and definitely NOT spikey

I would certainly not go with the Riff Raff is the guitar is bright. Been there done that, it was NOT a good fit for my bright Les Paul.. However, I smacked it in another, much darker Les Paul, and it sounded godly! Not sure what kind of sounds you are after, but the Abraxas/Mule would certainly be a better choice, or maybe a «pure» Abraxas or Mule set.

Great. This brings me to another question in regards to the tightness of the Mule. I know the Abraxas would be a little tighter as far as bass response goes, but does The Mule bridge pickup retain any tightness?

I put an Abraxas in the bright LP, it sounded good but it was not particularly tight. Probably more feel than actual sound, it sounds quite tight when I listen to stuff I recorded with the guitar. The Riff Raff for instance, is quite a lot tighter though, and I think I would go with something like the VHII if tightness is important.

The Mule is tight enough for anything except maybe metal, although some players pull off great metaltones from their Mule-set.
