I had an EMG PA2 preamp circuit some time ago and I just had to take it out, it did what it promised and had lotsa gain on tap but it also made the pickups sound dull and noisy. I still have it lying on my desk since I'm not gonna put it in any of my guitars. So I recently got a MM04 (JE-1000 clone) preampcircuit, which has 4 dipswitches for eq and a trimmer for gain setting.

I installed it to my rhoads, which has a Nailbomb in the bridge, the outcome was phenomenal. Even though NB sounds very good per se, the MM04 seems to turn it into a real fire-breather. I've never played so long non-stop, getting the shred out and my fingers have never hurt this much :lol:.

Anyway, just wanted to say that BKP pups work with active electronics (as long as the active stuff is good quality) very well. CoB guitar sound is starting to emerge quite nicely :twisted:

So how much did the MM04 cost? Unfortunately the only Finnish word I know is "apina"... which apparently won't help me to navigate the Musamaailma web page. :(

Actually, it looks simple enough - if I had a schematic I could pretty easily make my own!

I have just gutted my Sambora strat, the active preamp has been removed and i wired my BK's in as standard. The tone has come alive, not that it was bad before but now its so open and detailed.

More than likely, but the EMG circuit comes with a switch (I assume it is set with a good buffer).

It will be slightly different for pickups than regular guitar pedals though!

Dennis Cornell used to make active guitar preamps - I had one in a Strat (midboost) and it was very nice indeed.

Give him a call and see if he still offers them (not sure if they're listed on his website)

I have a Koch GPA deluxe lying around. It's not installed in any of my guitars. It has a true bypass switch and a three-way switch. You can program three presets in it, using the six dip switches in the unit. You can get clean enhancement, treble boost, various amounts of boost (5, 10 and 20 db) and a 20 db boost with bass cut.

They don't make it anymore but it's a great unit. But I don't really need it in any of my guitars.
