Ibanez 5- way, single coil?
« on: March 28, 2016, 01:46:13 PM »
Hi All, First post.   Recently got a Nailbomb for my Ibanez RG3550MX and am anxious to install it.  This guitar is an HSH setup with a standard Ibanez 5-way switch.   The Nailbomb is going on the bridge.  Maybe this is a stupid idea, but I was wondering if it was possible to change the wiring so the 2nd position of the selector switch, instead of taking one coil from the bridge pup and combining it with the middle pup, would just use one coil from the bridge pup as a single coil.  Can that be done just in the pup wiring, or would the switch itself have to be modified, or is this just a bad idea?

In case that's not clear, on the switch, position 1 would be the full humbucker bridge pup (the Nailbomb), position 2 would be just one coil form the nailbomb, position 3 the middle pup, (the rest unchanged)

Why not just use a push/pull pot to give you the bridge singlecoil sound you're after and then position 2 can still give you the bridge single and middle option?
