BKPs for nailing Nuno Bettencourt's tone?
« on: April 01, 2016, 01:27:53 AM »
Hi Everyone, so far its awesome being on this forum

I've been a fan of nuno since i can remember especially his tone. So what do you guys think a good set or individual BKP that nail his tone? (not just EQ wise mind you, but response and dynamic as well).
For reference, his tone on 'waiting on the punchline' is what i'm after although it's considered his 'newer' tone, but it's such a gorgeous, raw, crunchy tone that is super tight, dynamic, and has many character. Songs like 'Cynical', 'Hip today', or from different albums like 'cupid's dead' are awesome. His early tones are great but i feel that it was masked too much by his amp and effects (and of course his playing) to make a reference, too much gain too.
i have a feeling it's a hot vintage set from how dynamic it is and how it cleans up easily, but maybe you know better

Cheers guys

Three bridges spring to mind here sir.
The rebell yell, miracle man and cold sweat.

The rebel - recommended by ben at bkp for nuno tones. A great rich sound that really fizzes and twinkles at the top in great agressive way. Pinched harmonics fly easily too, easier than the Mm maybe. The bottom is super tight so you will have to rely on the midrange to punch.

Miracle man - super aggressive and meaty in all the places the Ry is not. So if you need a bigger lo end this is the guy. Nit as rich as the rebel yell but that is replaced with out put and a less refined  sizzling aggression for a more gritty aggression. Nice and bright but not piercing with a great response ti Pinched harmonics.

Cold sweat - this pick i have not owned or experienced and that makes it next on my list to try.....for these reasons.
Nuno's sound is scooped, bright, from roughly the same era thus pup is based on, aggressive, tight in the bass. All things the Bkp description has essentially.

Neck wise i havent decided yet but at the moment i use my Crawler and it seems to do the job.

Hopefully other more knowledgeable folk will chime in too.

Hope this helps (I'm also on the same search)
