That would roughly be the Page combo right there.... his neck was stock and his bridge was slightly overwound.... (I'm not sure if a Black Dog neck is the same as a Mule neck now that I think about it heh).

And you can pull off Gary Moore tones especially with a Mule neck.... what he does most of the time anyway is use the middle position and use the volume controls to create the balance he is after.
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

Yea thats what I was thinking.

I am also going to get the Black Dog in the neck as a black uncovered version and the neck Mule as covered with a nickel cover just like Jimmy Page's Gibson Signature Guitar

or

Do you think I should get them both nickel covered like his original Les Paul that he had in the late 60's? :?

I assume you are using Black Dogs still for the clips...

And the neck pickup??

Yep this was 2x Black Dogs, the calibrated set, open coils in my cheapo Epiphone.

I think a Black Dog set or a mule set would both do fine for you. Mule might be a good idea in the neck due to its lower output (I like the lower output neck pickup on the RebelYell set a lot).

Awesome Tip!!!! I usually used Soldano, but now I tried this one, and listen here, I had to make a clip right away.

THIS SETTING ROCKS !!!!

Yeaa it just screams, better definition than with the soldano. pretty good for old school metal and power rock

Did another Zep one, playing is quite sloppy in some areas but I kept it all because the attitude is right

Oh and who is going to listen to this until the end (after sth like 5 minutes!) must be really interested in these pickups ...
oh yeah it's Ms. Shiva on conversation volume mic'ed with a SM57 ...

This stairway clip is awesome!

I cant ever imagine an amp sounding this good at low volumes for some reason  It sounds like my ideal tone, if only it werent so expensive :(

If this was your V30 cab, I cant understand why I always read people on HC saying they have a nasally, peircing high tone!

This was the G12H30 side of the cab, not the Vintage30. They mix well together but for recording I prefer the 12H30 for its more even frequency balance ...

That last clip sounds unbelievable.

Q: when replacing pups in the Epi, did you throw out that connector?  I opened up my Epi and was amazed : I never saw anything like that in any other guitar.

The one that looks like from a computer drive? Yes. But i still have to replace the thin cheapo cable from the switch with proper shielded vintage wire (have it here already).

Hey Hunter,

Thanks for posting these - I'm ordering my Black Dog and Mule neck tomorrow morning thanks to your clips ... they sound amazing. The Stairway 1 and 3 clips are using the BD bridge I assume?

Wow - what a sweet tone!! I really like the very end bit where you play quiet too.
I listened to it til the end becase the playing and tone is great - I'm a metaller so these pups are prob quite low on my list of bkps to get   but its good to listen to different pups every so often!
