bare knuckle 63 veneer board pickup set
« on: May 20, 2016, 08:08:47 PM »
Really torn between getting Fender C69 set, Suhr V70 Set or the 63 veneer board set.

I'd like to stick with Bare Knuckle as i've been happy with my other BKP's (got to trade in my piledrivers soon but thats due to not being into hot pups as much as low output now).

Can the 63 veneer board set do that hard rock 70s thing? would they sound good through a cranked 2203 marshall and not sound shrill when hitting them with an overdrive pedal?

I currently use the 63 veneers in my #1 strat and i love them.
With my setup at least they sound very much like clapton on "From the Cradle" and "Session for Robert J"........The 63s are fatter and warmer than the cs69s........
I have a baseplate on the bridge pickup and i can definitely get a nice "Exile on Main Street" Stones sound..  ......
The cs,69s definitely have more of a Hendrix "Castles made of sand" vibe......on the neck pickup......personally i find the cs69 bridge unusable.....too ice pickey and thin........

The 63s will alsi nail the hendrix ""Red House" tone..........

The 63s have that really fat warm blues grit to them......personally i love them........
If you are playing rock DON'T GET VINTAGE STAGGER get the other stagger.....i forget what they call it.....
If you are playing blues go vintage stagger............

I hope this helps not sure which 70s rock you are referring to.......
I have not used the Suhr pups........

If you want the stevie ray/mayer vibe i would check out the bare knuckle '59s..........

Oh and yes the 63s sound great through a marshall.....

Good luck!

Let me know what you end up getting....

I would go Slowhands here if you want to keep it vintage. You need some extra mids and oomphh to obtain that full Deep Purple-sound. The Veneer Board-set is closer to RHCP-tones.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
