Impulse 8-String?...
« on: June 08, 2016, 05:19:12 PM »
I am thinking about grabbing an Agile 8-String for my next project & I am really excited about the Impulse sets. Then I noticed they aren't offered for 8-string guitars, :(

I was planning to buy some & put them in my Gibson LP Studio until I finally decided to start an 8-String project.  Is there any thoughts as to the possibilities of an 8 string Impulse? I can always go with another set of Juggernauts because my Jackson project came out SWEET with those!

BTW, all of my stuff goes through a Line 6 Helix to Pro-Tools. I don't play live shows but if I did I would probably go direct in from the Helix.

Might just take some time till they come. Stuff like that happened in the past, when they did not want to delay the core product while optimizing it for niche applications such as 8 string.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Yeah I can understand that, it is a bit of a niche but it is gaining a lot of popularity and it seems like it isn't just going to be a phase. It will be a little bit of time for me anyways because I am selling gear in order to fund this project & its going a little slow but it will sell eventually.

I wish there were pickup covers on the 8-strings too. I'd love to get something creative that matches the guitar I buy but I guess its because of the size of the pickups.

I think they'd be very well suited to an 8, so hopefully this happens!
It's really up to Tim, there's a large capital outlay that needs to happen for BKP to be able to manufacture blade style 8 string pickups. It won't be worth them doing so unless this cost is outweighed by how many extra sales there would be.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the impulses in your LP! A lot of LP guys have really been enjoying them.

Thanks Josh!

Also guys, is there just a universal size for the 8-string pups? I am just wondering, I am not sure between an Agile Interceptor, Schecter C-8, Ibanez RG Iron Label, or a Jackson Dinky 8. Whatever I can get the best deal on but I wonder if the Juggernauts will fit any or all of those without having to cut some wood. Anybody here know?

There are two kind of routing: "normal" routing and "soapbar" routing. The last one is made for active pick-ups (for example EMG 808), the first one for passives. BKP does not made 8 string soapbar covered humbuckers, so if the guitar are you going to buy have EMG 808 you can't put Juggs in it, but Seymour Duncan has various 8-string pickups in active cover that will fit.

Ok, good to know. I have seen the two different styles but I wasn't aware the differences were drastic enough that a BKP wouldn't fit a EMG 808 slot. One of the Agile Interceptors I am looking at has EMG 808s in it.
