Bridge pickup to match the Mothers Milk
« on: June 10, 2016, 12:21:09 PM »
Hi guys,
Recently I've been thinking about getting classic superstrat setup - HS (or SH), single at the neck and humbucker at the bridge position.
Currently I've been using the Mother Milk neck pickup with Flat 50 in the bridge; I think that the tele one will go soon to my other guitar, and I'll try to snatch some 'bucker to replace it. I am thinking about The Mule or The Emerald bridge pickup. I used to have Mules and they were amazing, but now I'd like to try something (new, and) a bit hotter. Emerald caught my eye, but I am wondering - won't it be a bit too hot for such low output single coil as Mothers Milk? How the are matching in terms of "pickup volume"? Is there a big level difference?
Thanks for help, stay tuned.

Mule or Em will work, but let me poison your mind and suggest the Abraxas.

Naaah, I am highly resistant to poisons! :D As I have some experience with BKs - It will be eight type of BK I own, and I've played through like four other types,  so I am pretty sure for narrowing the choice to Mule or Emerald :) My only concern was how to match the volume levels, but I suppose it won't be such a huge problem.

I have a VHII with Mother's Milks in my Bravewood Strat.  It's a veneer rosewood neck and alder body.  I play mostly classic rock and blues.  There is no problem with the VHII matching the MM's.  I have all 3 of the pickups you are thinking of and don't think you'll have a problem matching any of them.  It's much more of the overall sound that you're after that will be the difference.  Emerald's have great harmonics and that AV growl, Mules are the classic PAF sound.
So many pickups, so little time
