Finally found my dream bridge pickup - The Abraxas
« on: July 28, 2016, 06:47:46 AM »
I know everyone has their personal favourites out there,
but for me, after 40 years of playing and spending a small
fortune on pickup swaps, the Abraxas leaves me in awe every time.

It simply does it all... very full, clean and glassy, coil-splits well, reacts
organically to the smallest changes to my volume or tone pots, covers
virtually any style of music... what more could you ask for?

I know other models seem to get more love here on the forums, but this
is not a pickup to be overlooked or under estimated. It's simply brilliant.
To me, it is very much a JB on steroids, if you will, but with 10x the life
and breath to it.

Who else out there has and loves their Abraxas?
I absolutely couldn't be happier with it.

Thank you, Tim

Nice. Looks like your super happy with the Abraxas :)
I have been really considering the Abraxas lately.
While I want a versatile pickup, I will be pushing this into the tech/progressive metal domain.
There is a severe lack of content showing the pickup being used for metal so I'm still a little hesitant on pulling the trigger.

The Abraxas has seen more love in the last two years than before. I love my set in my Tele Gib - they were the first set in that guitar after it was routed for humbuckers, and I have no plans to change them. Especially the bridge pickup - as you wrote - seems to do everything rock and blues really well.

Cheers Stephan

I'm tempted to try one in my SG but not sure if I will get on with it. Seems like a hotter Mule which may not be a bad thing at all.

Sedore, what style of music do you play mainly? What are your tone preferences in general?
I`ll be putting Abraxas in one of my guitars very shortly as well, so I`m really interested in others opinion!

After seeing this video, it's going to be my next pickup. It's got everything in it. The solo tone is immense. And so is the tone when it goes softer

Hi Lucas, I enjoy playing pretty much everything except what they call 'new country' music. I love everything from classic rock to Latin, Celtic, Reggae, 80s and 90s Alternative, you name it.

I've been through countless guitars and pickups over the years and after dropping the Abraxas into my Ibanez RT450, I love the guitar every bit as much as the PRS CE24 guitars I've been using almost exclusively for 20 years.

To me, the Abraxas takes my playing to another level. I enjoy the space between notes and this pickup 'breathes', if that makes any sense. It has incredible balance across frequencies, enough power to drive the amp as hard as I ever want to and all I have to do is work the volume and tone knobs to pull a seemingly infinite number of tones out of it.

I've never been happier with a pickup in almost 40 years of playing and have no intention of ever swapping this one out. My search has truly ended.

This probably isn't the place for self promotion, but if you PM me, I will send you my full name and links to music I have on the web if you would like to check it out some time.

Thank you

This is actually the next set of BKP I intend on trying.

I have my modern contemporary covered (nailbomb), but I need a nice hot PAF pick up.

How do you like the neck pick up? The little research I've done resulted in the neck being sorta dark and I'm not usually a fan of that.

Abraxas doesn't seem as popular as the other pick ups for some reason.

My Abraxas set is in my PRS Bernie Marsden. I gigged last night playing through my Yamaha THR100. I've never been so happy with my tone. I don't know why the Abraxas slipped under the radar but in the last year or so it has come into it's own. A really terrific set that can do anything. I agree that it has great balance across the frequencies which comes across really well when you get to crank your amp a little. Awesome. Thanks Tim.

I have an Abraxas in my R9 Les Paul teamed up with a Mule, best pickup combo ever. I also have one in my Robin Artisan & will be getting one for my BFG Les Paul. Like you it's the best bridge pickup I have ever used, it just sings & can handle any style I throw at it.
