8 string SC? Between NB bridge & CS Neck
« on: August 12, 2016, 08:22:17 PM »
So, I have the Ibanez TAM10 now with the Dimarzio Ionizer 8 H-S-H set. At least that's what it says, but the pickups are all old looking cream color & in all the pics they all seem to be white. I bought it used on Reverb so maybe I got the ol switcheroo pulled on me. NEVERTHELESS, I don't really like the way they sound. Its like the bridge pickup doesn't clear up enough even when the coil tap is engaged. It sounds a little bassy like a neck pickup.

So in following my current guitar idol (John Browne), I am thinking about getting a Nailbomb Ceramic bridge with a Cold Sweat neck. His sound is about what I am going for but I still want some cleans like Misha Mansoor plays with the beautiful delays & reverbs. I thought about getting the Juggs again since they sound so beautiful in my Jackson 7 but I like the idea of variety. My question is, or was, what single coil to get between the 2? Then I noticed there weren't any 8-string single coil pickups listed on here.

D:
Mind Blown...

I guess I can just keep the Ionizer SC in with the NB & CS but I love me some BKP now. Any thoughts?...

The issue is the baseplate and bobbins.  I doubt that BKP will ever tool up to make baseplates for 8-string SCs, as they might only sell single figures in a year and would never make back costs.

They used to do rewindings of other pickups.  This is an odd one but you could ask.  Besides the Cobra the existing single coil lineup would be possible in theory using your bobbins and baseplate, but I am not sure they still do stuff like that.

I'm pretty sure Misha used the c-bomb before the juggernauts and aftermaths existed

Yeah I can see why they don't make single coil 8 string PU's. I get it but it sure would be cool to see one. I can just keep the ionizer in the middle position but now my bridge & neck pups will be nice & new bright white while the old Ionizer will still be the old cream. Plus, the Cold Sweat & Nail Bombs don't offer black poles :( so they will look completely different all the way around.

I'm sure if you sent Tim & co your middle single they'd be able to do a rewind. I'd go for an irish tour if you want something to match up volume wise with the split coil sounds on those pickups, or a trilogy suite if you want it to keep up with the humbuckers.
