seymour duncan jazz + jb combination
« on: April 02, 2006, 09:00:25 PM »
I have  cort m600 guitar, 1 vol + 1 tone pot with a jazz in the neck and a jb in the bridge positions.
My problems lie with the jazz pup. It is wired identical to the jb but it gives off a hum at high volume whereas the jb is quiet.
I have tested continuity and its fine , coiltapping also works- but I am still getting this annoying hum.
Do you think its anything to do with potting ?
or is it a duff pup ?
Any help would be much appreciated
Tony

It WON"T be to do with potting
make sure that the white and red wires which should be connected together are also insulated and not free to touch anything (assuming the Duncans have been made with 4 conductor wire)
otherwise you would be getting a single coil sound and 50/60cycle hum
Also make sure that the earth wire from the neck pickup (as well as the green wire) is connected to the back of the pot.

To isolate the problem as thge pickup and not the switch -swap the hot wires for the two pickups to the switch and test again (remember they will be the other way around whn you select them) If the bridge pickup hums -it could be a duff switch
If the neck p-up hums then it is the pickup at fault .
THEN YOU WILL NEED TO LOOK A BIT DEEPER INTO THE PICKUP PROBLEM.

And as you have posted here in the BKP forum - why not look at some of the cool pickups that are offered- you will be amazed at how good they sound.
I like Duncans too but have a special affection for the handwound beauties that Tim and his team make by hand.
