Can this metal pickup ring affect my tone?
« on: September 30, 2016, 12:50:31 PM »
Hey, I just added a metal pickup ring to my Telecaster HH (11-60, tuned CGCFAC).

It's only several mm thick, placed on top of a black plastic ring and (the seller thinks) made of brass.

Any chance it can affect my tone?

I like a bright, raw tone and am interested in replacing this bridge pickup with a BKP Painkiller.

Thanks

Kiichi

I seriously doubt it could make a noticeable difference.  When in doubt non magnetic and pretty much not in the way of the field so....

For pickups we would need a bit more info, such as style and reference bands perhaps. PK might very well work, but usually BKP presents the horror of choice.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

I don't think so.  I had the pot metal type gold plated rings on my Explorer and when I changed them out for black plastic I didn't notice any difference, at least with Warpigs

Definitely no.
And if ever so slightly so (like 0.0001%), only Eric Johnson could hear it...
