Strat pickups
« on: October 05, 2016, 10:29:02 AM »
I have a set of the 63' veneer board pups coming for my custom shop 62' reissue strat. The guitar has a set of Abby 60's handwounds in it at the minute. They are the set it came with. I wanted to really love the Abby's and they are good pickups. Especially the neck and middle, but the bridge did wound to the same dc as the others. They are all wound to approx 5.4k and as a result the bridge struggles to match the other 2. I did add a Callaham baseplate to the bridge pup and it did beef up the lows and mids a bit but it still struggles against the others.
As I like the basic tone of the Abby's though Ben at BKP recommended the 63' set with a baseplate on the bridge. It's a better match as it has been wound hotter.
Anyone out there have the 63' set on their strat?
I did consider the mothers milk and a total change by trying the Irish tour set. My friend has that set and I thought they were great, but not strat enough for what I wanted.

Hi, I've the 63 veneer in a maple 'board strat, it sounds great. Nice and bright, enough power unless you want something specific for output. Nice amount of bass. More bass than the '59 slab board, not as bright.
